Facebook
and Twitter have both recently had a series of hackers who by their very intent
will take over one’s account and post whatever they want.
On Facebook, it has been a series of nude
photos to tempt people to look at pornography.
On Twitter, it seems their intent was to advertise some product. Evidently, in technical terms concerning the twitter hack, it
is called a phishing scam. It seems that it
is quite effective to get one’s attention by causing concern about the privacy
and security of their computer files and personal information. Then, as with some scams, the intent was to
lure one in to look at the advertising of a product.
This seems all too familiar!
This is exactly how Satan works to tempt us. The devil has his own “phishing scam.”
“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted
of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But
every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then
when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished,
bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren” (James 1:13-16).
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary
the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1
Peter 5:8).
Our attention may be diverted from our faithful walk to look
upon something evil. We must keep our
desires pure so that we are not drawn to such evil (Matthew 5:8; Philippians
4:8). If lusts (desires) conceive, sin
is its by-product and ultimately results in our spiritual death and separation from God (Romans
6:23).
Just as we must be careful to keep your social accounts
secure, we must keep our hearts secure from the devious and deceitful
temptations of the devil. For He is the
father of lies (John 8:44).
